Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic is hoping for another encounter with Carlos Alcaraz in the 2023 US Open.
The final Grand Slam of the calendar year has kicked off and everyone wants to see yet another epic battle between the Serb and the Spaniard following their three thrillers in the recent past.
The two had a first face-off in the Roland Garros, where Alcaraz wasn't just battling with Djokovic but also had to bear the pain of cramps, eventually ending up losing a four-set battle.
However, Alcaraz, being a Spaniard did what they usually do. He gained his revenge in the best possible way as he defeated Djokovic in the Wimbledon 2023 final in a five-set battle and clinched his title in England.
Their third encounter took place in the intense heat of Cincinnati, although the tough conditions troubled Djokovic the Serb came out on top.
Djokovic, despite being 16 years older, has managed to compete head-to-head against Alcaraz and proved time after time that he still has much to produce.
However, the Serb could not control his laughter at the prospect of competing with the Spaniard for the next 10 years.
“I'm not so sure about that, but I'll try to play at a high level for as long as possible,” he told Eurosport.
“We have played three amazing, epic matches against each other at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and Cincinnati recently.
“All the matches went the distance; they were physically gruelling and demanding, but very exciting and close matches.
“The fans want to see a rivalry; they want to see the best players in the world go toe-to-toe. Hopefully, we can give them another match here in New York.”
Djokovic will be motivated to extend his Grand Slam tally to 24, while Alcaraz will be looking forward to defending his title.
“I expect a great energy, a great vibe because that's what I've been experiencing in New York all these years,” he added.
“It's been two years since I last played here. It's the biggest stadium we have in our sport; the night sessions are the loudest. The tennis sessions or matches you can experience for a player or a fan. I'm super excited.”
